Overgrown (2025)

Overgrown can currently be seen in the Van Sijpesteijn bicycle and pedestrian tunnel in Utrecht, as part of I Light U festival. Vines glowing with light cover the walls of the normally dark, concrete tunnel. Light moving through the vines mimics sap flowing through real plants, and draws the comparison between that and the flow of people through the tunnel bringing the city to life.

As cyclists or pedestrians pass through the tunnel their presence causes leaves and shoots to sprout from the vines, bringing even more life and light to this dark spot. As the tunnel becomes emptier the fresh leaves wither and disappear again, creating a reflection of the rhythm of the people moving though the city.
